LASER
HAIR REMOVAL POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Immediately after a treatment there may be some redness and swelling
in the surrounding tissue. There may also be bruising which should
resolve
within two weeks.
1. If you experience discomfort, you may apply ice or cool compresses
to the affected area and take acetaminophen or ibuprofen. You should
not take
aspirin containing products.
2. You may experience mild itching at the treatment site. This itching
normally lasts 1 to 2 hours but may persist for a day. Scratching
should be avoided. You may take an oral antihistamine, Benadryl,
or use a
topical 1% hydrocortisone cream for comfort.
3. It is recommended that treated skin be protected from the sun
by applying at least a SPF 30 sunscreen.
4. New hair growth will usually begin in about three weeks. These
are “dead” terminal
hairs pushing out of the treated follicle.
5. Dark spots beneath the skin (they look like blackheads),
are terminal hairs that need to be exfoliated. It is helpful
to soak
in a warm
bathtub (this will dilate the pores) and then exfoliate with
a soft cloth or
loofa sponge. A lotion containing salicylic or glycolic acid
may also be helpful,
but avoid use on red or irritated skin.
6. The treated sites may also blister, bleed or ooze fluid.
This discomfort is usually mild to moderate and fades after
several
days. It is important
not to pick, rub, or scratch the sites as this may lead
to permanent scars or infection. If you notice blistering, it
is important
to keep the area
moist with an antibacterial ointment (bacitracin, polysporin)
or moisturizing lotion to prevent scabbing and scarring.
7. No deodorant to underarms for 48 hours following treatment.
