PREOPERATIVE
INSTRUCTIONS & PRECAUTIONS for
HAIR and VASCULAR LASER TREATMENT or VEIN INJECTIONS
1. Report to my office if you should develop a cold, fever, or develop
open sores or blisters
prior to appointment. Vascular laser will not be done on tanned skin.
No hair reduction laser will be used on gray or white hair. Shave hair
prior
to laser hair reduction 48 hours prior to treatment.
2. Use no products containing aspirin for ten days prior to surgery
and two weeks after. Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin, Motrin)
is OK. You
must inform us about medications you are taking before starting,
and at each subsequent laser treatment. Some medications are
contraindicated,
and must be discontinued before treatment.
3. Discontinue the use of Retin A, Glycolic or Alpha Hydroxy Acid
skin care products 24 hours prior to your scheduled facial laser
treatment.
Avoid their use on the treated areas while bruising/red discoloration
or crusting is present. You may use your topical products around
the treated
areas.
4. Take Vitamin C (500 mg.): One tablet in the a.m. and one tablet
in the p.m. for five days
prior to surgery and for 10 days after. This helps to control
bruising and promote
healing.
5. Wear comfortable clothes on the day of surgery. Do not wear
clothing, which must be
pulled over your head. Wearing shorts for leg vein injection
or laser is preferred.
6. DO NOT wear makeup, creams or have moisturizer on your face
when arriving for facial treatments. The same applies to
laser treatments of other body
regions.
7. Take prescribed preoperative and postoperative medications as
directed by Dr. Kuisle or Dr. Hartley, if
indicated.
8. Avoid direct exposure to the sun. A sunscreen of SPF 15 or
greater should be used for several months before and after
your treatment,
or as long
as you plan to continue treatment. Sun exposure may result
in undesired changes
in pigmentation
or make the treatment less effective.
9. Avoid vigorous aerobic exercise for 5 days after procedure.
10.
Multiple treatments will be needed to achieve optimal results,
and will be determined
by the type
of skin lesion, area, hair density or condition to be treated.
11. No hot tub, sauna or soaking until any scabs, dry or
raw areas are healed.
12. For vascular laser or vein injections, avoid activity
that causes skin to flush for 5 days. This includes
alcohol, spicy
foods, vasodilators,
and vigorous
exercise.
